Analysis of Nong-O’s Uppercut Finish
Is it a surprise that each of Nong-O’s brutal combinations began with a jab?
Not at all. The jab, after all, is the most important strike in any fighter’s toolkit. It’s also one of the most versatile tools around. You can use your jab to measure distance, to blind your opponent, or to even knock them out, if you’re lucky. In this particular finish, Nong-O uses his jab often to off-balance his opponent. His jab is used many times as a push.
A fighter without balance cannot do much of anything. Peter Aerts famously uses pushes and pulls to land his trademark head kicks. Giorgio Petrosyan often uses pushes and pulls to land his brutal knees. You don’t need to use anything complicated to off-balance your opponent. Sometimes a simple shove is enough.
Nong-O is a legend. However, we know that he has been on the receiving end of some unstoppable combinations. This is something we will all face down the line. There’s always someone out there who can beat you, whether it’s in fighting or in sparring. That’s why it is so important to break down video of yourself.
Learning is sped up by feedback, whether you’re trying to learn a language, learning how to paint, or learning how to fight. And one of the best ways to get feedback about your fighting abilities is to watch yourself and critique yourself. To learn how to do it properly, check out the video below:

In the finish above, Nong-O demonstrated beautiful work with the jab. However, that is not the only tool in his arsenal that he has mastered completely. Nong-O is an incredibly technical and cerebral fighter, and there are other tools which he uses to destroy his opponents.
