Analysis of Achanai’s Elbow KO
Position before submission is a well-known saying of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
However, when we replace “submission” with “striking,” this phrase applies perfectly to Muay Thai. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and other grappling arts, the positions of leverage are clear. These same positions of leverage are also in striking. Grapplers have the mount. We have the outside angle. The stronger your position, the more damage you will deal.
However, in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we also get the odd cats like Marcelo Garcia who choose to attack when they don’t have position. Submission before position. They attack between transitions.
Examples of fighting in transition also exists in striking. Roy Jones Jr. would hook as he pivoted. This is tricky business because the pivot takes away the power of your hook. However, if you catch your opponent off guard, they will, of course, still get wobbly-wobbly. And that is exactly what happened in the below video by Evolve MMA:
Hitting while moving is tricky. You do it wrong while moving forward and you may find yourself charging into an attack. You do it wrong while moving backward…Actually, how many people even know how to hit moving backwards? Well, after you watch the below video, you will, sir or madam!
A tactical retreat is as difficult in fighting as it would be in a battle. However, this need not be so. The video below makes sure of that.
