CRITICAL: Lead Hook + Kick Combo

When I first started my journey into the the striking arts, a boxing coach at the local PAL told me, “Don’t bother with a left hook. You’ll never get it.” So me being me, I decided it would be the punch I would work hardest at perfecting. Little did I know it would become one of the sharpest weapons in my arsenal.

The lead hook + leg kick combo is one of the most utilized combinations in all of Muay Thai, kickboxing and MMA. It employs solid basics and well-refined movements in a devastating fashion, covering multiple distances with minimal adjustment. It allows the nak muay to initiate the attack at close range and still land successfully against a retreating opponent.

In this video, we will cover the finer details of mastering this combination, from foot placement and stepping to generating maximum power using only our natural kinetics.

“Mr. Perfect” Ernesto Hoost is without a doubt the best practitioner of this combination.

Multiple time K-1 Grand Prix Champion and the pride of Holland, Hoost could adjust this combination to attack the liver and/or the head, either individually or in immediate succession. This is while loading up one of the deepest leg kicks ever introduced to combat sports. It was a real work of art to witness.

Lawrence Kenshin breaks down the perfect leg kick as performed by the legendary Hoost:
