Evolve MMA – Clinch Session With Sagetdao

Any sport can create overly-competitive individuals. However, it’s hard to get a big head when you’re surrounded by champions who could fold you into a pretzel and shove that big head up into your rectum with both hands tied behind their back.

Is it odd to find that the ego and competitive drive that fuels us ought to be suppressed some?

Why would one want to hold back what’s pushed them forward?

Well, maybe not held back…just diverted.

I divide motivation, drive, ambition, whatever you want to call it, into two kinds: one is a Napoleonic urge to conquer (think a Conor McGregor or a Mike Tyson) and the other is a DaVinci-esque curiosness (think a George St. Pierre). One seeks to overcome others, and the other seeks to overcome oneself. And, of course, they’re not mutually exclusive. The greatest example of combining both is none other than the greatest conqueror the world has ever known, Genghis Khan.

The man conquered, and the man learned. He picked out what he could learn from the ashes of the civilizations he torched so that he may conquer better.

Such is the mindset a competitor needs. No matter what. When your ego grows and, as Bill Walsh said, gets bigger than your ears, that’s when you’ll stop growing. Being in an environment where there are men much greater than you keeps your ego in check.

It’s always a blessing being around people better. Because “we live on an island surrounded be a sea of ignorance. As our island of knowledge grows, so does the shore of our ignorance.” In short, the more you learn, the more you realize how much more there is to learn.

The levels that exist in Evolve are fascinating. It’s like being in a construction worker and just watching the tallest buildings in the world being erected before you. And the man who aids in building such Muay Thai wonders of the world is none other than Kru Yod. Check out this video of him and Sean flowing on the pads.
